The dispersion of pigments involves several processes, and all additives added to the system that can reduce the swelling force of the system and increase the wetting function of the substrate can be used as substrate wetting agents. There are many types of substrate wetting agents, such as non-ionic block copolymers, anionic sulfates, and high molecular weight organic silicon polymers, all of which can be used as substrate wetting agents. However, in the systems of coatings and inks, the most commonly used substrate wetting agents.
There are roughly three categories as follows. One type is the substrate wetting agent of alkynediol, mainly used to reduce the system. Dynamic surface tension has a wide range of applications in fast assembly lines, such as printing inks, wallpaper coatings, etc. Its effect on reducing static surface tension is relatively limited.
At the same time, it has the function of increasing the wetting of the pigment due to unstable bubbles, as well as the function of increasing leveling, which is equivalent to a panacea in this water-based coating.
The second most widely used type is polyether modified organosilicon, with the vast majority being trisilane structured polyether modified organosilicon. This type of substrate wetting agent reduces static surface tension and has a strong wetting effect. It is also the most widely used substrate wetting agent in our coating industry. Usually, this type of structure is more stable in foam. However, we can also make some adjustments to the structure to make it unstable and even have digestive functions.
Of course, there is another structure for the substrate wetting agent of organosilicon, which is the double silane structure. The twin silane structure combines the characteristics of alkynediol based wetting agents and conventional trisilane formulations, while reducing static and dynamic surface tension. It also has functions such as unstable foam and enhanced leveling.
Wetting pigments can also be helpful.
The third category is fluorinated surfactants. This type of substrate wetting agent has the strongest ability to reduce static surface tension among all types of substrate wetting agents. Even in aqueous solutions, it can lower the surface tension to around 16, making it highly porous. When used in the primer of wood coatings, its pore penetration is very strong, and its anti shrinkage ability is also relatively good.
